We are a small Keswick-based company.

Residential services

Our residential services have been developed to take account of almost any kind of gardening requirement.

We can, quite literally, design a garden from the ground up. If, for example, you’ve moved into a brand new house, we can help you create a garden which compliments it. Or, if you don’t like the garden you’ve inherited, we can clear it and start from scratch.

Our services cover residential gardens and commercial grounds plus:

  • Planning and design;

  • Tidies and clearances;

  • Tree and shrub planting;

  • Tree and hedge pruning;

  • Fencing, decking and paving;

  • Regular garden and grounds maintenance.

Commercial services

Our commercial services cover the maintenance and development of gardens at offices, factories, apartment blocks and gated communities.

We have worked for companies in the aerospace and engineering industries, organisations providing serviced office space, residents’ associations and companies in the leisure sector.

About us

Green Shoots Gardening Services is a small Keswick-based company set up in 2002 by experienced gardeners. We worked in Twickenham, south-west London, for 16 years before moving to Cumbria.

We provide a professional yet highly personalised service covering all aspects of residential and commercial gardening – from clearances and tidies to fresh designs and ongoing maintenance.

Home visit

At the start of every job, we like to visit our clients to discuss their needs and to assess the scope and requirements of the project. We then draw up a plan with alternative options covering the costs. Once the plans are agreed, we undertake the work with the minimum disruption.

Involve the client

We like to get as much input from our clients as possible, to ensure we get the best possible result.

Green Shoots Gardening Services is covered by public liability insurance to the tune of £2 million; we are also registered Waste Carriers (licence number: EAN/930083/CB) and can provide waste-transfer documentation, if required.

We can change an existing garden so that it becomes the kind of space you really want. We can turn a high-maintenance garden into something that’s easier to manage. Or we can make a drab space beautiful.

And, of course, we maintain existing gardens. We have regular maintenance schemes which can be tailored to suit your requirements.

We also have off-the-shelf maintenance schemes, any of which can be tailored to meet your specific requirements.

Terms and conditions

By purchasing goods from greenshoots.uk.com you enter a legally binding agreement with us on the following terms. You should read and understand these terms because they affect your rights and liabilities.

These terms describe the basis for purchase by you and sale by us of the products described on this web site.

It is agreed that the terms set out here constitute the total agreement made between the parties and no variation or modification of this contract shall be effective unless agreed by both parties in writing.

The Contractor

The term ‘Contractor’ shall mean Green Shoots Gardening Ltd. The Contractor agrees to perform the work as summarised in the Estimate Document and detailed in the ‘Terms and Conditions’ document. All work will be carried out in a competent manner.

The Client

The term ‘Client’ shall mean the person or persons who have authorised the contract and normally be the Owners (or Owners’ Agent) of the garden in which the works are to take place.

Additional work

Where additional work is requested outside the original quotation, it will be charged at the current standard rate on a person-hour basis unless otherwise agreed in writing.

Force Majeure or Act of God

The due performance of this Contract is subject to alteration or cancellation by either party owing to any cause beyond their control.

Expiry of Estimate

Estimates are valid for 60 days from the submission date, after which period, the Contractor reserves the right to withdraw and submit a new Estimate.

One-half of the total price is payable at least one week prior to the start of work, followed by agreed weekly stage payments. These payments are deducted in full from the quoted price, which then becomes payable upon completion of the works.

Payment method

Our preferred method of payment is by direct bank credit into an account which will be advised. Alternatively please make cheques payable to Green Shoots Gardening Ltd.

Payment is due upon satisfactory completion of the Contract. A surcharge of 3.0 per cent of the invoice amount per overdue month will be levied on all accounts not paid within 30 days of the invoice dated. Costs incurred collecting overdue accounts will be the responsibility of the Client.

All materials remain the property of the Contractor until full payment has been received and that all funds have cleared on any cheques used as payment or part-payment.

Cancellation of work not received within 5 working days of scheduled start of work will be subject to a charge of 15% of the quoted price.

Any complaints should be raised by the Client with the Contractor, in writing, within 28 days of first becoming aware of the matter to be complained of and, in any event, within 28 days of completion of works.

It is assumed that all areas specified are owned by the Client unless otherwise stated.

Preparation is possibly the most important part of redesigning a garden. Usually, there is little or no impediment to this work, but occasionally unforeseen difficulties may be encountered which require the use of heavier tools and necessitate more hours than was budgeted for in the original estimate. The price estimated for this part of the work assumes that no such obstacles exist, but should the Contractor encounter any such difficulties, it may be necessary to add extra charges to reflect the additional work.

Underground Services

Although every care will be taken to avoid such services, unless the exact location of underground pipes, wires or cables is clearly marked on site, or detailed on a plan, prior to the formation of the Contract, the Contractor shall be under no liability for any damage through work performed under the Contract.

Completion of Contract can be dependent on weather conditions. Work operations delayed by poor weather conditions will be resumed as soon as conditions allow.

1. Damage through vandalism of part completed work whilst the Contractor is not on site will not be the responsibility of the Contractor.

2. By sending monies to fund or part-fund the proposed project, the Client is deemed to have read and understood this contract and agrees to abide by the terms of agreement set out in it. The terms of this agreement cannot be changed unless agreed by both parties in writing.

Incorrect Goods

If we sent you something you hadn’t ordered and which was not a substitute item (see below), return it within 28 working days unused and in its original packaging and you will not be charged.

Damaged In Transit

If your purchase is damaged in transit you can return it within 28 days and either get a replacement or a refund. Please make sure you give us your order number and return the item in its original packaging.

Damaged or Defective Goods

Products. If you receive a product that is defective, you can return it within 28 days and either get a replacement or a refund. Please make sure you give us your order number and return the item in its original packaging. If the product is covered by a manufacturer’s warranty, please contact the manufacturer directly.

If you receive a plant that is in bad condition when you take it out of the box, contact us immediately. We may then ask you to send us a photograph so that there is no doubt as to it’s condition on arrival with you, as opposed to what it looks like by the time you return it to us. Bear in mind that plants look different depending on what time of year it is. If you choose a nice leafy-looking deciduous shrub in the winter, remember it’s going to turn up looking pretty bare. It doesn’t mean there’s anything wrong with it, just that it’s out of season and will perk up when the weather does. Perennial plants won’t even show above the soil level in a pot during the winter, but that doesn’t mean you’ve been fobbed off with a bunch of soil. However, provided that you have contacted us within 7 days of receiving the damaged plant we will be happy to arrange for a refund or replacement.

One year guarantee on plants, shrubs, trees and perennials

Our plants (shrubs, trees and perennials) are all guaranteed for one year after you’ve bought them. If the plant fails in the first 12 months, we will replace it or refund you. This guarantee does not include any plants damaged due to lack of watering or lack of proper horticultural care. In particular, plants will not be replaced if the plant care guidelines, sent out with the order, have not been followed. All you have to do is take a picture of the plant, send it in with your order number to enquiries@greenshoots.uk.com, and tell us what the problem is. We will then do our best to sort you out a replacement or refund your money. You will be charged for delivery on replacement items.

You can return anything you’re not happy with within 7 days of receiving it provided it’s not something you’ve tried out and not liked! The analogy would be buying a dress, wearing it for a party and then deciding you no longer want it! The only exceptions to this are Cut Flowers and Christmas Trees.

To cancel an order, please drop us an e-mail at enquiries@greenshoots.uk.com with details of the order you are cancelling.

We will not pay the costs of returning an item to us.

Until we receive the goods you are returning, they are your responsibility. For your protection and peace of mind, we recommend you use a recorded delivery service to return things.

To get a full refund, simply return the item to us in its original condition, in its original packaging within 28 days of cancellation.

If the item has been damaged, used or is not returned in its original packaging, we reserve the right to withhold a percentage of the refund value if the item needs to be reduced in price for resale.

If you order a Ready-Made Border, Plant Combination or Border Design and a plant in the scheme is unavailable, we reserve the right to replace it with something similar. You can rely on us to choose a plant that’s not only of a comparable size and price but one that fits in with the overall design we’ve worked on with you.
